ERCOT Volunteer

ERCOT has been a grand supporter of our efforts here at Shepherd’s Heart. From the very beginning, Thelma Garza and Doreen Martinez have led their teams of volunteers from ERCOT’s Community Involvement Committee in making donations of food, funds, and volunteer hours. They seem to know exactly the time we need help the most. Whether it is helping us give away turkeys and groceries at Christmas, or ladling soup during our very first Empty Soup Bowl fundraiser, they have a presence. This year ERCOT far exceeded their own expectations. After collecting donations through the Christmas holidays, ERCOT employees presented contributions totaling more than $11,191!

Nicole Beran is one of those volunteers! She grew up in Taylor and has a special love for the community. Nicole goes way back in volunteering for Shepherd’s Heart even before she was representing ERCOT. In fact she went the extra mile and assisted with client registration for quite some time when we were still based in the old Taylor High School and trying to take our fledgling organization to the next level in terms of reaching the community. Nicole revealed her compassionate heart when interviewing for this article. Discussing her “volunteering way of life” over the years, she said, “I see so many in need in my own community and wanted to help show we care about other people here at ERCOT. It’s so important to set a good example for our children and teenagers at home.”

The satisfaction of helping raise such a generous donation for Shepherd’s Heart during Christmas to share with folks in need right here in our community was heart-warming for Nicole and her ERCOT team mates.
